New secretory pathway controls axonal trafficking of the TRPM8 channel

In 2020, investigators from MinusPain identified the presence of a non-conventional secretory pathway composed by endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus and exocytic vesicles markers in peripheral axons from sciatic nerve.

The team found that the main ion channel responsible for cold transduction in the somatosensory system, TRPM8 channel, trafficked through this local secretory pathway to reach the membrane of cold-sensitive peripheral axons in living organisms.
